We were on the Galapagos from January 9 through January 14, 2018. Our
itinerary was perfect, from my perspective. We flew into Isla Baltra
then explored the mangroves on the northern end of Isla Santa Cruz
before our all night cruise up to Isla Genovesa, one of the northernmost
Galapagos Islands. From there we cruised south to Isla Santiago, Isla
Rabida, and Isla Isabela before returning to Santa Cruz and our flight
back to Quito.
After a two hour flight from Quito, we landed at the airport on Isla
Baltra. At the airport on Isla Baltra we got our first taste of the
Galapagos Islands. WE SAW FINCHES!!! Darwin Finches! Of course, to
us, all finches on the Galapagos Islands were Darwin finches.

Our first adventure began as we boarded the MY Galavan. It wasn't new
by any means, and there were only two really decent rooms on the whole
boat, and Jim and I were lucky enough to be assigned one of them. Most
folks ended up in the belly of the boat where they smelled the gas and
heard the nonstop roar of the engines. We felt pretty lucky!
From Baltra, we visited the nearby mangroves on the north edge of Isla
Santa Cruz. This was our first exposure to the Islands and we were
stoked! ANYTHING we saw was amazing to us! It was on the Galapagos!
We were on the Galapagos! Life was GREAT!
Our first night on the Galavan featured a toast to our dear friend Paul Doescher.

Kara, Wayne, Cristina, & Sue share a toast to Paul with the rest of the travelers and crew.
